The 1865 & Solent Area Prog Presents
Kindred Spirit and Living In Shadows

KINDRED SPIRIT are a five-piece, featuring the “perceptive and intriguing” songs, “haunting and beautiful” voice and rhythm guitar work of Elaine Samuels. They are known for weaving thrilling electric violin or guitar and flute or sax with compelling and uplifting stories, driving bass and drum rhythms and two female vocals. They have been performing and recording albums as a band in this form, since the early 2000s and have performed at some prestigious venues and events, such as Liverpool’s Cavern Club, Weyfest, A New Day Festival and HRH Prog Festival. They have been embraced by the prog rock world, with features in Prog magazine and Classic Rock Society’s magazine. Their new, post lockdown line-up features well regarded bass player Keith Buckman, from "The Far Meadow" and the addition of electric cello with talented wind player, Stevie Mitchell.
"Creative, progressive folk-rock with some extraordinarily beautiful songs and a host of imaginative and wonderfully crafted ideas...Written for our generation" Neil Mach, Ad Pontes Magazine

Living In Shadows was formed by award winning vocalist Zoe Gilby and multi instrumentalist Andy Champion as a studio project during the 2020 lockdown. Their distinctive sound, follows in the tradition of great English alt pop and progressive rock whilst also reflecting their background in jazz. The duo has released two albums, ‘Living in Shadows’ (2020) and ‘Neon Burning’ (2024) to critical acclaim. Since then Living in Shadows has expanded to a five piece band featuring Mark Williams on guitar, Ben Lawrence on keys and John Bradford on drums.
