Solange

Solange (born June 24, 1986) is an American musician, producer, and actress. She first gained experience with music as a backup dancer for Destiny’s Child, the girl group that launched her sister, Beyoncé, to fame. Solange released her debut R&B album, Solo Star (2002), at the age of 16 and acted in several films throughout the early 2000s, including a starring role in Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006). In 2008, she released her second record, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, which ventured more into pop-soul and electronica and was critically acclaimed for its artistic growth from her debut album. She released her neo-soul EP, True, in 2012, and launched her own record label, Saint Records, only a year later.

Solange’s third album, A Seat at the Table (2016), was widely successful both critically and commercially and featured more exploration of R&B, funk, and neo-soul. The positive reception of A Seat at the Table made Solange and Beyoncé the first sisters to individually release No. 1 US albums within a calendar year. Her fourth studio album, When I Get Home (2019), is a musical and stylistic follow-up to A Seat at the Table and involves thematic explorations of Solange’s hometown of Houston, Texas.
